Good Call Trivia ("Good Call", "we", "us") is a live trivia game played on a TV with phones as buzzers, at goodcalltrivia.com and in the Good Call apps for Fire TV and tablets. It is run by an individual, not a company, for friends and family. This page says what we collect, why, and what we do with it — in plain language, because there isn't much.
The short version
- Players don't need an account. A name and a team is all it takes to play.
- Hosts sign in with Google so we know whose room is whose. We get your name, email address and profile picture from Google, and nothing else.
- We keep game data — names, teams, scores, all-time records — so the game works and the leaderboard means something.
- We don't sell anything, don't run ads, and don't share your information with anyone except the people in your own game.
What we collect
If you host a game (sign in with Google): your Google account's name, email address and profile picture, and a Google account ID. We use these to create and remember your room, show your name on the host dashboard, and tell your room apart from everyone else's. We do not read your Gmail, contacts, calendar, or anything else in your Google account — the sign-in only asks for basic profile information.
If you play: the player name you type (or pick), the avatar and colour you choose, your team's name, your answers, your scores, streaks and rank, and — if you choose to set one — a 4-digit PIN so your name and all-time points are remembered for next time. The PIN is a convenience for a game night, not a security credential; don't reuse a PIN you use anywhere else.
If you send chat or reactions: what you send is shown to your team (team chat) or to the whole room and on the TV (room chat and reactions) during that night.
From your device: a random device ID stored in your browser or app so we can keep you on your team if you reconnect, your saved server address (in the TV and tablet apps), and the usual technical information any web server sees — IP address, browser or app version, and timestamps — which we use to run the service and fix problems.
What we don't collect
No payment information, no location, no contacts, no microphone or camera, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party analytics or tracking. There are no ads.
How we use it
To run the game: put you on a team, score answers, show standings and a podium on the TV, keep all-time records, and let a host run a night. To keep the service working: diagnose problems and stop abuse. That's all. We don't use your information for marketing and we don't build profiles.
Who can see it
- The people in your game. Team names, player names, avatars, scores, streaks and room chat are shown on the TV and on every phone in the room — that is the game.
- The host of your room can see the same standings, plus which devices are connected, and can rename or remove teams and players from the night.
- Us, when running the service or fixing a problem.
- Our hosting provider. The hosted version runs on servers provided by Render (render.com) in the United States, which stores the data on our behalf and does not use it for its own purposes.
- Google, for sign-in only, under Google's own privacy policy.
Nobody else. We never sell or rent personal information.
Google sign-in, specifically
Good Call's use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements. We request only the basic profile scopes (openid, email, profile) and use that data solely to identify you as the host of your room. You can revoke Good Call's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Cookies and local storage
We use a session cookie to keep a host signed in, and your browser's local storage to remember your device ID, whether you've set a PIN, and settings like "big buttons". No advertising or cross-site cookies.
How long we keep it
- Chat and reactions: only for the night; they're not saved.
- A night's game (teams, answers, scores): kept while the night is running and until the host clears it or starts the next one.
- All-time records (player name, avatar, points, nights played): kept so the leaderboard works, until the host deletes the player or you ask us to.
- Host accounts: kept while you use Good Call to host. Ask and we'll delete yours.
- Server logs: a short period, for troubleshooting.
Your choices
- Play without a PIN and nothing about you is kept beyond that night.
- Ask the host to delete your name from the all-time records (Host dashboard → Admin).
- Email us to have your host account or player record deleted.
- Revoke Google access at the link above.
Children
Good Call is a family game and children may play. Players don't create accounts or provide contact details — a first name or nickname is enough, and we suggest exactly that. Hosting (signing in with Google) is for adults. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us beyond a player name, email us and we'll remove it.
Security
The hosted service uses HTTPS. Access to the server is limited to us and our hosting provider. That said, this is a home-grown game, not a bank: please don't put anything sensitive in a team name, a player name, or chat.
Local games
When Good Call runs on a laptop or tablet on your own WiFi (no internet), nothing leaves that machine. Whoever runs the laptop holds that data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top and, for anything significant, say so on the sign-in page.
