What's in the box.
About 19,000 questions, every one with a fun fact that explains the answer. Eighteen categories, theme games, decade games, franchise games, and room for yours.
Eighteen categories
Counted from the bank just now.
Anything Goes draws from all eighteen. The big categories are games of their own too, so a room that only wants Music gets a game of Music. Scores are kept per category for players with a name, so a regular's phone can tell them their strongest and weakest.
Theme games
A whole game on one thing: Canada, Ozarks Trivia, Music Videos, Country Music, Westerns, Sci-Fi, Lunchtime, Late Night, and Current Events (refreshed regularly).
For example: Which province joined Canada last, in 1949? · Which 1983 video was the first by a Black artist in heavy rotation on MTV?
Decade games
The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. The music, the news, the TV, the prices, the fads. A 40th birthday and a 70th birthday want different decades, and both are here.
For example: Which 1985 film sent Marty McFly back to 1955? · What did a US first-class stamp cost in 1970?
Franchise games
For a room that has watched everything: Star Wars, Marvel, DC Comics, The Office, Seinfeld, Friends, The Simpsons, Saturday Night Live, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Star Trek, Disney, Pixar and more. Every question comes with a fun fact, so the person who hasn't seen it still learns something.
For example: What is the name of Dwight's beet farm? · Which house did the Sorting Hat nearly put Harry in?
Quick Five
Five questions, one short game. The warm-up before the real thing, or the last round of the night when half the room has to leave.
For example: How many sides does a stop sign have? · Which ocean is the largest?
Hard Mode
Thirty questions, all from the two hardest levels. For a room that will complain if it's easy, and a game that is only trivia.
For example: Which element has the chemical symbol W? · Who wrote the 1759 satire Candide?
Any other game can be 8, 10, 12, 15 or 20 questions; the host picks, and 12 is the default.
Your own questions
Anything you load becomes a game on your picker, under your own category name, with an icon you pick or upload: a family's inside jokes, a real-estate course, a fourth-grade spelling list, the history of your town. A category plays once it holds 12 questions. The bank's rules apply to yours too: four answers, one right, a fun fact that explains why. Your Own Questions →
Kept honest
- No repeats. A room doesn't see a question again until it has been through the rest of what it draws from.
- Never the same answer twice in a game. If "Saturn" was right on question three, no question later in the game has "Saturn" as its answer.
- 12 questions before a category plays. Your own category sits greyed out on the picker, with "Needs 12", until it holds that many; a game of it is 12 questions.
The bank is written to be fair from across a bar: short questions, short answers, no trick wording.
